dance theatre X/residency
information/dance technique & rep classes
dtX residencies often
include dance technique or repertory classes for student performers.
charles o. anderson's class presents the style of the company and is
usually appropriate for intermediate and advanced students of dance.
his afro-contemporary aesthetic incorporates elements of west and
south african dance and pan-african and modern dance techniques and
social dance into a unique contemporary style. a comprehensive
warm-up is followed by the teaching/performance of a combination
fashioned from the dtX movement vocabulary. the class ends
with across-the-floor movement and a closing warm-down and
meditation.
in addition to
anderson's master class, company dancers can teach technique classes
in a variety of styles including traditional west african,
umfundulai, jazz, modern, hip-hop, and ballet. these classes
can be geared toward any level of dance student, theatre student, or
community participant.
charles o. anderson
also teaches repertory classes in which specific choreography from
company repertory is taught. students can be exposed to select
sections of pieces to be executed by the company in performance,
enhancing their understanding of the dtX style.
