dance theatre X/residency
information/open rehearsal & performance discussions
open rehearsals are
often part of dtX residencies. in an open rehearsal, charles
o. anderson discusses his choreographic methods and the company
rehearses pieces from the standing dtX repertoire, or from new works
in progress. the audience experiences the process behind the
art of dance and can observe how anderson shapes the dancers and the
choreography. a question-and-answer session can also be
included at the conclusion of the rehearsal.
in a pre- or post-show
discussion, anderson talks about the pieces in the evening's
performance, explaining the ideas and process behind his
choreography and methodology. having the opportunity to talk
with the artistic director can not only provide audiences with a
stronger connection to the evening's material, but with a deeper
appreciation for the creative process involved in making dance.
the entire dtX company
can participate in a question-and-answer session with the audience
following a performance. we have found this to be a fun and
lively way to conclude the evening as it provides audiences with
informal opportunities to engage with the work while the company
melds with the community. audiences seem to get a kick out of
getting to know the individuals behind the performance, and anderson
and the dtX company gain valuable feedback about the evening's work.....
